Halloween Spooktacular

The orchestra pulls out all the stops — and then some. It starts far, far away, with John Williams’ Star Wars Suite in all its brass-blazing glory. From there the program turns darker and more decadent: the whirling excess of SaintSaëns’ Bacchanale, Bizet’s fever-pitch Farandole, and Mussorgsky’s Night on Bald Mountain, a witches’ sabbath that doesn’t let up until dawn.

At the center is Bach’s Toccata and Fugue in D Minor — the most famous organ music ever written — in Leopold Stokowski’s massive orchestral transcription, scored for the biggest forces of the night. Then Khachaturian’s blistering Lezginka and Abreu’s TicoTico no Fubá send everyone home grinning. Costumes encouraged!
