Jason Vieaux, Guitar
Grammy-winning guitarist Jason Vieaux — hailed by NPR as “perhaps the most
precise and soulful classical guitarist of his generation” — comes to Fairbanks for one
night only.
His program spans continents and centuries: the sultry rhythms of Jorge Morel’s Danza
Brasilera, the timeless elegance of Bach’s Prelude, Fugue and Allegro, and the beloved
Paraguayan waltzes of Agustín Barrios. At its heart are two works no one else can play
quite like this: Four Paths of Light, written for Vieaux by jazz legend Pat Metheny, and
Vieaux’s own compositions Tidal Pools and Home. The evening closes with José Luis
Merlín’s Suite del Recuerdo, a vivid journey through the folk dances of Argentina.
From Bach to Metheny, this is classical guitar at its most intimate and virtuosic. Don’t
miss it.
